I've mostly been working in the print studio. My original concept-- of surreal images that might appear as part of a larger story-- has been pushed aside by my recent tendency to work more abstractly:

In a way it feels like a distraction, but this seems to be the way my mind is working lately.
I like what you have started Ben. As I said to you in the studio a few weeks ago, I really enjoy your color palette.
ReplyDeleteIntriguing. You are still in your world of the surreal but the lack of figures and objects allows for a deeper viewing experience for me. I am drawn in, wanting to explore and examine more closely. This work is gorgeous! Abstract is a good place for you.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Donna - I am so happy to see this work! I hope you can figure out (and find a way to articulate) "what it's about" for you. I can't wait to see these in person!
ReplyDeleteThe images are beautiful, but have you worked out an artist statment yet? What will be the new concept?
ReplyDeleteI'm liking this Ben. They get richer and deeper the more you add.
ReplyDeleteI am really enjoying the sparse color palette and fluidity of these peices. Strong rhythm and energy and movement and texture. Sweet pics!
ReplyDeleteI am really enjoying the depth and color pallette, but some how on a deeper level miss the illustative quality of some of your older works.
ReplyDeleteI think the scale is contributing well to your work and would like to encourage you to print to he edge so you might make a piece that is 2 sheets, i.e. 60" long and see how the image develops. Increase the darks to a richer dark and push the subtle shift in the lights and medium values.
ReplyDeleteTry to chine colle your drawing elements in the first pass so the developing image can relate in mark.
Strength and confidence has emerged in your work. These mythical, mystical, swirling clouds are provocative and mesmerising.
